CXE Barrel Cooling Modules

Century Extrusion barrel cooling modules are used to circulate distilled or treated water through the extruder process section barrel assembly. The main purpose of the skid is to reduce contamination and calcium buildup in the barrel cooling passages which are the result of using city water and other non-treated water supplies. The cooling module consists of the following components which are assembled into a freestanding skid:

• A 304 stainless steel water reservoir
• A 304 stainless steel pump with a TEFC motor.
• A brass shell and tube heat exchanger
• A brass temperature actuated water control valve
• A stainless brass Y strainer

Sizing of the cooling module is based upon the heat which must be removed from the barrel assembly. The sizing assumes a removal rate which will crash cool barrels from 500 °F to 100 °F in 30 minutes. Heat exchanger sizing is based upon a cooling water supply temperature of 100 °F.
